Stuffed Magazine

I sent in my owls to submit for publication in Stuffed Magazine and they are going to be in the July '12 edition.
They seem to like the "girl" owls.

Tomorrow will be Kinder

This gorgeous song is by the Secret Sisters

Black clouds are behind me
I now can see ahead
Often I wonder why I try
Hoping for an end

Sorrow weighs my shoulders down
And trouble haunts my mind
But I know the present will not last
And tomorrow will be kinder

Tomorrow will be kinder
It’s true, I’ve seen it before
A brighter day is coming my way
Yes, tomorrow will be kinder

Today I’ve cried a many tear
And pain is in my heart
Around me lies a somber scene
I don’t know where to start

But I feel warmth on my skin
The stars have aligned
The wind has blown but now I know
That tomorrow will be kinder

Tomorrow will be kinder
I know I’ve seen it before
A brighter day is coming my way
Yes, tomorrow will be kinder

A brighter day is coming my way
Yes, tomorrow will be kinder

The Hunger Games Concerns

It is ironic that the movie explores current parental concerns about reality television and screen violence as entertainment. Don't take any one under 14 to see this movie.

Parents need to know that although the bestselling Hunger Games books are enormously popular with tweens, there's a clear distinction between reading about violence and seeing it portrayed on screen. Developmentally, the 10- to 12-year-olds who've read the book may find the movie's visceral, sometimes bloody teen-on-teen violence upsetting -- especially the brutal scene that opens the Games, in which several teens are slaughtered by their fellow contestants. Even young teens need to be mature enough to deal with the 20+ deaths in The Hunger Games; characters are viciously dispatched with various weapons -- including spears, arrows, and swords -- as well as by having their necks broken, their skulls cracked, and their bodies ravaged by carnivorous and poisonous creatures.

The Hunger Games

It is just like a good bad dream, I spent the night and all morning trying to recall the events of the film. The images and anxiety are burned into my brain.

Extreme inequity of wealth and resources.
Separation of economic and social classes.
Control of resources by the government.
Reality television survivor set up.
Hard to imagine, huh?

The Hunger Games story is set in a future where the wealthy, all controlling Capitol Government selects a boy and girl from each of the twelve districts. 24 "children" then fight to the death on live television in a government controlled environment (in this case the actors are in gorgeous South Carolina). Katniss Everdeen is the main character, she volunteers to take her younger sister's place for the 74th Hunger Games and plays the game with grace and wit. She is a strong heroine who's resourceful and selfless.

The film is not at all scary...
But it is horrifying and offers Katniss' perspective so effectively, so the viewer feels the pain she feels, her anxiety, her sadness, her hope and her desire. Everyone of your senses is heightened and the adrenaline made me shake the entire time.It is one of the best films I have seen in a long time, I didn't think any one could make anything that hasn't been done, but they did.

I'm going to cut it out and then restart

Sabra and I worked on our collage collaboration for over 6 hours yesterday,
collaboration is such an interesting process, it creates work that otherwise would not exist, and it only gets better with time.

Santa Monica Pier

Crystal Cove State Park in Newport

Most of these pics are from the Hipstamatic ap
We saw so much nature during our exploration of Crystal Cove Beach. In the tidal pools there were millions of anemone, hermit crabs and mussels. On land we saw a black hummingbird, a road runner, little lizards and a giant grasshopper.
