Cape May

We are soon on our way to Cape May. I don't think I will find time to blog until I am relaxed with the laptop on the beach. I am trying to complete way too many projects before we leave.

A Story

(This is to read in one breath)

This is a story about an eyelash that was on an eye on a face that was on a head on a neck of a bee in a spider web in an attic in left field of a trailer park in a magazine that was in a pool at a hospital in a museum on grass near sand on a corner of a bank in a hurricane in a flood in an omelet on a cheeseburger in a frying pan in a bucket in a dumpster in a river in a canyon in a belly button in a student that was a thief in cage at a jail in snow in a mansion in Paris in love in the heart of a bone of a poodle wearing a bonnet in a telephone booth in bed on a balloon in an atom in an advertisement in a story in a letter in and album sent to Turkey in a pocket of a kangaroo in a picture in the newspaper in a partridge nest on television in a suitcase in a black hole through a telescope in a vault in a parking lot in a puddle in a toilet in an e-mail in a box in quicksand in a forest in a mirror in space in my thoughts.

I have a new beautiful maple dresser that my friend Michael Kryzytski, an incredibly talented wood worker/cabinet maker made for me. It has eleven drawers and it is absolutely beautiful. As gorgeous and new as it is, it feels like it has always been in my life, and it is truly part of our home. (Don't you just love the wallpaper in our bedroom? The original owner most likely put up in 1965).

You can have stickers made of your own images/artwork at Moo.com. I have wanted to do this for so long, ever since Tara Hogan gave me a sheet of her stickers with a purchase. Perhaps I will get to it this week.

I have to give Michelle Moode credit for inspiring my latest Seeds of Ideas pieces. I totally stole her way of sewing up little circles with a blanket stitch. Obviously, I really like her work and you can see more of it at her Etsy shop and her blog.

New Work

I did finally remember some of the strategies I need to use so that I can still make paintings, but not hurt my hand. These two have just been completed and although I feel unsatisfied about the scale of the pods in regards to the size of the block, I do like them quite a bit. I am planning to work on 12 x 12 canvases next and see what happens. I am also going to try different seed pod shapes. One of my favorite thoughts for a long time has been about the concept of "seeds of ideas" and I think these little paintings capture that for me. They are for sale on Etsy if you can't live without them. I titled one Seeds of Ideas and the other Last Day of School.

Jen Bradford

I found this piece by Jen Bradford while surfing today. It is one of her early works. I just love the juxtaposing lines and shapes - and of course the colors are wonderful.

Next Time

Sadly I found out that Nook has closed its South Ave store, but happily they will be reopening in July in Pittsford which is closer for me. So my daughter and I stopped in Threads and found a few wonderful things and of course the South Wedge market was wonderful and I did get another flower from JoAnn. I also got four pints of homemade sorbet and icecream from some lovely children representing Creekview Sorbet and Icecream. I absolutely love coconut sorbet and was thrilled to find it and eat it for dessert last night. I also bought pear sorbet, blood orange sorbet and honey coffee ice cream. It is supposed to be 95 degrees this weekend so I am sure it will all get eaten and I will be back next Thursday for more! Creekview Ice Cream & Sorbet is located at 674 South Avenue Suite 271.4550

Boulder Coffee, Nook and more!

second storie} at the market features a different artist or crafter at the South Wedge Farmers Market (behind Boulder Coffee) each Thursday 4:00 - 8:00.
JoAnn McGranahan, one of the second storie co-founders, will have her delightful handmade silk flower pins as well as other darling sewn creations there today. JoAnn was so sweet that she gave my daughter a flower at the second storie at VSW. So we are going tothe market today to buy some more, get a cup of coffee and stop in at Nook to get a baby shower present.

It's gone :(

But here is another one of Michelle's paintings to tempt others. I will try to post one of my own later today.

Tuesday, June 3, 2008

This is Michelle Maul's latest work. I love her paintings and keep postponing purchasing one because she is so prolific, I am sure as soon as I buy one there wil be another that I fall in love with. However, this one is one I am not sure I can live with out. I think the scale, the objects against the textures and of course the colors are wonderful! She has an Etsy shop of course.

Too much time on Etsy!

I have been posting more vintage items today as the shop sold out rather quickly. I am rather proud of this picture of these resin flowers. Check them out at Etsy.
